GriefTemple-Transparent

Grief and love are sisters, woven together from the beginning. Their kinship reminds us that there is no love that does not contain loss and no loss that is not a reminder of the love we carry for what we once held close.

~ Francis Weller

Practices to Build Community and Belonging

In a society and culture that is grief illiterate, knowing how to support ourselves in grief — and also support others — is the most powerful engagement we can commit to.

Traditionally, indigenous cultures - as well as the Vedic lineage I come from - hold space together for grief, for loss, for death - for healing.

In tribal cultures, it was clear that that grieving person was not expected to produce for that year. They were only expected to grieve, knowing that when they stepped out again, they would not be the person they were before the loss they experienced.

To share, shed tears, pray, engage the elements, speak to the ancestors, commune with the spirits, revere the Goddess - is to co-create ritual in a collectively held space. I offer a sacred space where you can find solace, reflection, connection, and guidance through your journey of loss. This is what is deeply needed in order to reconfigure our grief illiterate culture and society.

Gathering in safe spaces of circle, ceremony, and ritual - either in small groups or one-to-one - provides a space for deep healing. To be truly witnessed in our grief and have it lovingly acknowledged is potent medicine amid our grief journey.

"Grief Temple intends to support both you and the people you love who are experiencing loss. I want  to bring this most-often taboo subject out in the open: because most often grief/loss/death are avoided, hidden, or shamed in our society. Instead of being met with compassion, grief is judged, dismissed and/or misunderstood."

SATYA's GRIEF INSIGHT

Satya completed a deep-dive study into renowned grief author and speaker Francis Weller’s work, including participating in his “Apprenticeship with Sorrow" course. After losing her mother to sudden death six years ago, she has been guiding friends and family on the grief journey. Her practice deepened more recently after losing her father to a tragic and complicated death in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Born into the Vedic lineage, Satya has been living the traditional path of yoga all her life. Satya carries the gift of ceremony and ritual by the grace of her ancestors.

Satya has completed leadership training focused on Trauma-Informed and Transformational Leadership, Crisis Intervention, Indigenous Perspectives, Coaching, and Justice/Equity/Diversity/Inclusion.

Her work offers a heartful space of utmost respect and reverence to you and your tender heart. She offers ceremony, workshops, retreats and one-on-one support.

Grief Temple is for anyone who has experienced loss in any form. It is also for those who have a hard time finding grace with grief or being around those who are grieving. This safe space invites us to disarm, and show up in support for ourselves, and by doing this, we show up for each other.

Grief Temple also supports the dying and their loved ones before, during, and post-death.

Gratitude

"After losing my younger brother to suicide, I reached out to Satya - and I found great comfort in her. She helped me with the Vedic rituals (how to make an altar, the key mantras to chant, the timings for the different rituals, etc...). Her words and wisdom made me feel the love of the Divine Mother flowing through her."

All the buried seeds

crack open in the dark,

the instant they surrender

to a process they can't see.

~ Mark Nepo

Loss does not just centre around the death of a loved one. As grief author and speaker Francis Weller indicates, grief is also about the lost parts of ourselves: it's about what we did not receive, and it's about the collective grief we feel related to the depletion of Mother Earth. It is also the ancestral grief we carry through epigenetics (our ancestral lines).

Everyone has grief, but society is "skilled" at armouring up and/or numbing out to avoid the genuine and transformative experience of loss and letting go. The truth is that grief is a full-body, visceral experience that is beyond the mind’s comprehension. One cannot think their way through grief: you have to feel your way through. It requires safe, loving attention in order to acknowledge it, embody it, transmutate it - and essentially, heal.
